Eight years old Sarah was born in New York. Her parents, Calvin and Rose are immigrants from Hong Kong, who own a well to do grocery store in a tight knit business community. They have always worked hard to create a comfortable life for their family, instilling in Sarah the importance of perseverance and dedication. After Calvin and Rose’s funeral, Fang, Sarah’s grandmother, decides to have Sarah live in a temple to learn the cause and effect of life, as she believes this will help Sarah find solace and understanding during her difficult time.  Meanwhile, Fang takes over the grocery store in an attempt to continue the family business, pouring all her energy into keeping the store running smoothly for the sake of her late son and daughter-in-law’s legacy. Sarah lives in the temple for ten years, where she not only learns about life’s transient nature but also delves deep into the discipline of martial arts. Under the guidance of wise monks, she develops strength and resilience, both physically and mentally.  She has learned the impermanence of life, and through meditation and training, has come to find peace within herself.  When she becomes a young woman, Sarah goes back to her grandmother and helps at the store. Everything is going fine, and the bond between the two women grows stronger, filled with love and shared memories, until one day two thugs enter the store and attempt to rob them, the resulting commotion triggers Sarah’s traumatic memory of her parents being slain, bringing back a flood of emotions she thought were long buried.  Feeling a surge of adrenaline, Sarah quietly sneaks around the store from behind the thugs, her heart pounding as she recalls her training.  She performs martial arts moves on the thugs and knocks them unconscious with a series of well-placed strikes, demonstrating her skill and bravery.  Feeling good about helping people, especially her grandmother, Sarah adopts a costume to fight crimes at night, ready to become the protector her community needs. However, she knows that it will not be easy, as every night brings new challenges.  Soon, she is named, “Justice Angel”, likening herself to the young woman, “Xiaoying” in the ancient Chinese fable, who fought valiantly for justice and was known for her bravery and selflessness. Sarah hopes to inspire others in her community, just as Xiaoying inspired so many in her own time.
